Information guide for first-year students regarding PE classes
Dear Student (female), Dear Student (male),
For the upcoming winter semester, we wish you commitment in your classes and maintaining good physical condition!
Remember that at the end of September (from September 26 to 29), registration for PE will begin. You can only register via the USOS platform. Check beforehand if you have the appropriate number of tokens in your account to select a specific PE class time. You need two tokens for PE (1 for the winter semester, 2 for the summer semester).
If you notice a lack of tokens, please write an email to: swfis@uek.krakow.pl providing your name, surname, album number, with a request for their allocation.
We also encourage you to regularly check for current information posted on our website in the „Aktualności” (News) section.
ATTENTION
- You choose only one form of PE classes, regardless of the facility or outdoor area where the group has classes. See the class schedules in the „Harmonogramy” (Schedules) section.
- Make sure your PE classes do not conflict with your general UEK class schedule. Remember that: for PE classes you must arrive at least 10 minutes beforehand to change in the locker room specified in the schedule. Classes start punctually, e.g., at 10:30 in the sports hall or 10:45 at the swimming pool. The so-called „academic quarter” does not apply to PE classes.
SWIMMING POOL
For swimming pool classes, you should arrive at least 10 minutes early, as classes begin exactly at the designated time with a characteristic sound signal!
Remember to bring a swimming cap – it is MANDATORY, swimwear, a towel, and for comfort, flip-flops for the shower, swimming goggles, etc., to UEK on that day.
Note! We do not offer swimming cap rentals at the swimming pool!
During the autumn-winter period, coats, jackets, and shoes should be left in the general cloakroom at the entrance to the Sports Pavilion. The next step is to find an open – free locker in which you will safely leave your belongings. Also remember the locker code you must enter when closing it. From the changing area, you proceed to the showers where you must thoroughly wash your body before entering the water. There is no specific time given in the Regulations for how long to spend in the shower, but 2 minutes will be OK. All classes last only 45 minutes. During the semester, you can learn to swim, improve your previously acquired swimming skills, or actively exercise to music during Aqua aerobics. All classes are intended for both women and men. After the classes, you return from the pool area to the shower zone. In the corridor, there is a place to leave towels and flip-flops, in which you can safely move around this area.
Class times: 7:45-8:30, 8:30-9:15, 9:15-10:00, 10:00-10:45, 10:45-11:30, 11:30-12:15, 12:15-13:00, 13:00-13:45, 13:45-14:30, 14:30-15:15
See you at the UEK Swimming Pool!
GYM
It is located on level „-1” in pavilion C. Changing rooms are located inside the gym. In the aerobic equipment zone, you can maintain good condition by exercising on stationary bikes, ergometers, and treadmills. The main part of the gym has a comprehensively equipped room with dumbbells and barbells with varying loads. There are also stationary machines and frames on which exercises with heavier loads can be safely performed.
Class times: 9:00-10:30, 10:30-12:00, 12:00-13:30, 13:30-15:00, 15:00-16:30, 16:30-18:00, 18:00-19:30.
During each training session, we practice general development and circuit training, i.e., sets of exercises for each muscle group with the possibility of focusing on a specific muscle group. In the second part of the classes, everyone can exercise individually under professional coaching supervision.
Strength and Physique classes for women
Starting this semester, there are also classes exclusively for women – called „Strength and Physique”. You don’t need to buy a club membership, as you’ll be able to exercise with a professional personal trainer! This is a class proposal only for ladies! Remember to change your footwear and wear appropriate sports attire for the classes. A towel and water to replenish lost electrolytes during strength training will also be useful.
SPORTS HALL
PE classes in the sports hall enjoy your greatest interest. 1200 students attend classes there weekly.
You can choose team sports disciplines from a wide range, from general PE to volleyball, basketball, futsal, classes to music like fitness, yoga, Pilates, to individual sports such as tennis, table tennis, badminton.
When descending to level -1 in the sports hall, where the changing rooms are located (from number 1 to 9), remember to change in the locker room that belongs to the specific class in that sector.
Note!
See the class schedule, also available on the notice board opposite the entrance to the hall from sector B or on the website: swfis.uek.krakow.pl – in the „Harmonogramy” (Schedules) section.
The sports attire you wear for classes is optional, but remember that it must be changed in the locker room before entering the sports hall. Also, do not forget to change your footwear before entering the sports hall. Shoes must be athletic. Unfortunately, Converse-type sneakers are not suitable. Sports classes last 90 minutes. The sports hall is divided into three sectors: A, B, C. PE didactic classes in these sectors take place simultaneously.
Class times: 7:30-9:00, 9:00-10:30, 10:30-12:00, 12:00-13:30, 13:30-15:00, 15:00-16:30.
OUTDOOR
1. Hiking trips
Students who have chosen this form for PE credit are asked to check the dates and meeting times of the group in advance. The itinerary for the trips is posted on the e-business cards of the instructors (Artur Pagacz, Jerzy Drej, Mariusz Sumara). Trips take place according to the calendar, regardless of weather conditions.
The first meeting is always on the UEK premises and is located in front of the Didactic-Sports Pavilion (DS pavilion). Please familiarize yourself with the Regulations for Outdoor Classes Credit available on the website:
Trips last 4.5 hours. During the semester, each group has 5 planned meetings. The routes do not require special effort from you, as they often follow pedestrian-bicycle paths or hardened forest trails. It is certainly worth exploring Krakow in this way and at the same time earning PE credit.
See you on the trail!
2. Bicycle trips
In addition to hiking trips, there are also bicycle trips. Check the information on the e-business cards of the instructors (Jerzy Drej, Sławomir Żuk). Rides take place on Fridays and Saturdays around Krakow. The length of the route and its difficulty level depend on the direction and destination. Route details are posted on the e-business cards. If you rent a bicycle from a rental shop, remember – only reserve equipment that is 100% functional! During the semester, each group has 5 planned meetings.
3. Nordic walking
Nordic walking is a fantastic combination of outdoor activity and engaging almost all muscles during a walk. A training effect is guaranteed. If you have never walked with poles before, you must try it. Nordic walking poles can be borrowed from the instructor (Sylwia Dudek). During the semester, each group has 5 planned meetings.
4. Skiing – snowboarding camp
For details, please ask the instructors (Jerzy Drej, Agnieszka Kieres). Participation in the camp grants PE credit. The camp is planned for December 2025 – probably Italy. Registration for the camp will be done via the USOS platform. If you are an older student, you can also join the trip with UEK!
The SWFiS teaching staff wishes you a healthy and active semester!
